So who wants to know who will be the next prosecutor at the International Criminal Court? We do! That’s why we asked Sabine Nolke , Chair of the search committee for the prosecutor to follow current post holder Fatou Bensouda, to come in and have a chat with us. 

Did she tell us who got their application in before the October 31 2019 deadline? You’ll have to listen to find out (TLDR; we did a bit of speculation together and she laid out the procedure and criteria).

Along the way Sabine also told us about what it’s like working behind the scenes at international organisations as Canada’s ambassador to the Netherlands. She focused on what’s been achieved at the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons over the last four highly politicised years and how a new mechanism was set up to investigate the use of chemical weapons in Syria.

And she wasn’t backwards in coming forwards with her opinion about the ICC budget and judges’ issues [We also talked about that in episode 3 ]. As for reading recommendations – Sabine hasn’t had time to open a thick book recently. But she advises people to broaden their sources: she reads the Economist, the New Yorker, the Atlantic in order – she puts it – “to try and sift out the truth from all the BS that’s thrown at you particularly on social media.”
