Earlier this year we managed to catch up with the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture – Dr Alice Jill Edwards, because she’s officially presenting her report on sexual torture during conflict to the UN General Assembly (today!).
We thought it would be worthwhile doing a deep dive into sexual torture and asking where it’s different from regular torture. Sexual torture – says Alice – is increasing: she describes an “alarming rise” in reports of sexual torture in recent conflicts.
We mention the podcast we did on perpetrators with Alette Smeulers – listen here.
Alice has a penchant for interior design Pinterest, as her way of relaxing.
