In breaking news, the International Court of Justice (ICJ) has ruled that Israel must immediately halt its military offensive into the Gazan city of Rafah.
President of the ICJ Nawaf Salam read out the ruling to the court saying “The state of Israel shall (….) immediately halt its military offensive, and any other action in the Rafah governorate, which may inflict on the Palestinian group in Gaza conditions of life that could bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part.”
The court voted on the decision with a 13 to two majority, with the judges from Israel and Uganda opposing the decision.
Judgements made at the ICJ are final and binding. But there is no way to enforce these rulings, and in the past Israel, has ignored them.
Our very own Stephanie van den Berg and friend of the pod Molly Quell were at the ICJ today covering the ruling and gave us a run down of events.
